Custody, Support                                      Child Custody 101  & Visitation

By far the most common types of family disputes involve the financial support, custody and care of dependent children.  Massachusetts law requires both divorced and out of wedlock parents to continually support their children into early adulthood. see child support guidelines

Even when parents agree on custody and support issues at the time of their divorce, separation or paternity case, future changes create new conflicts.  Attorney Grew is often able to resolve support, custody and visitation conflicts quickly and at an affordable cost. More and more, both parents believe they should be awarded custody of their children.  Most judges require a specific set of circumstances before they will order shared physical custody.  The majority of court cases are still resolved with one party receiving sole physical custody; however, increasingly parents are entering into "parenting plans," which offer both parents and their children the benefits of a compromise.  Attorney Grew can assist most parents with drafting a comprehensive parenting plan for the fraction of the cost of litigation.

Child custody litigation is expensive, legally complex and emotionally difficult for clients and their children.  It is necessary when children need protection from a parent or when one parent seeks to alienate the other parent.  Child custody trials frequently require the use of a guardian ad litem or other mental health or forensic professionals to assess both parents and the children in order to provide the court with a custody recommendation.

iFamily court judges look closely at both parent's history, conduct during the marriage and and present conduct to determine who receives primary custody.  Demonstrating the "right" parenting skills makes the difference  between receiving primary custody and visitation.   Winning custody sometimes requires a client to change his or her parenting approach.  Attorney Grew can assist you with this "custody makeover."  If obtaining primary custody is important, please put Attorney Grew's knowledge and experience with  guardian ad litem, DSS and contested cases involving mental health professionals.
